Madison County Veteran's War Memorial

I stumbled across this war memorial on a trip going west of Columbus.

This is one of the more visually striking memorials I have seen.  The statue of the soldier, placing his hand on a helmet fixed atop a rifle just seems to give you that sense of loss and sacrifice that war imposes upon us all.  

This is one of the most detailed memorials that I have ever seen.  It spans from pre-Civil War to War on Terror.

Madison County should be very proud of this memorial and I for one am glad that I happened across it and am able to share it's beauty and message with all of you.

White Turkey Drive In

My wife's family was originally from Conneaut, Ohio.  During trips there and to Erie, PA we would drive by the White Turkey Drive In.

The White Turkey Drive in has great food and fabulous Richardson Root Beer - right from the barrel!

The restaurant is a family owned business established in 1952 and named after the turkeys the family raised and used in their famous turkey sandwiches.

The service is fast and it is great fun to sit at the counter.  Don't worry though if you cannot get a seat at the counter as there is additional seating  around back.

If you are ever in the area, you owe it to yourself to try out this gem of a restaurant.  Make sure to check out the website too and see what is on the menu!

Wolfe Park Suspension Bridge

Located just off of Nelson Road in Bexley, Wolfe Park is home to an interesting suspension bridge for walkers and bike riders.

According to the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department,

Wolfe Park was donated by a deed in the amount of $1 to the City of Columbus by Robert F. Wolfe and his wife Della M. Wolfe. According to the documentation, the wording in the deed states "...in consideration of the good will which we bear toward the people of the said City of Columbus..." 

A suspension bridge was constructed across Alum Creek in 1922 to connect Franklin Park and is in use today as a bike path and pedestrian crossing.
