Location:  Goodale Park, Columbus, OH - COMFEST 2019

Arriving later in the Comfest Weekend, Goodale Park was still alive and buzzing with musical performances.

We were present at the gazebo stage and were able to witness the powerful vocals of Lindsay Jordan and the Stormy Daniels band.

If you get a chance to check out this band do so!

Community Festival 2018 (COMFEST)

COMFEST is a staple in Columbus, bringing with it vendors, music and events of all kinds.
Volunteers are a big part of the festival and they did a fantastic job this year.   Having talked with quite a few, they were all very friendly and helpful no matter what you needed.

There were some scattered showers during the hours we were there on Saturday.  However, that did not stop people from enjoying themselves or us from covering the event.   You could see people scatter under vendor tents, while others grabbed umbrellas or just let the cool rain shower over them.

If food and drink is your thing, thne you won;t be disappointed there either as a good portion of Goodale Ave is blocked off for beer and food.  Inside the park, you'll find additional food trucks.

Attending COMFEST annually, we have seen it grow over the years.  This year we noticed a focus on the more family friendly atmosphere where activities geared more toward the youngsters were abundant.  There were book reading stations, play areas, kids activities scattered all through out the park.

Below you can see volunteers helping make tie dye shirts, body paint artists and painting stations for the kids.

No matter if you agree with the politics, you have to appreciate the effort it takes to put something like this together every year.   When your heart is in the right place, looking for ways to better the community and the human condition, we have to at least come together at the table and hear each other out.

Discourse and compromise are always a better solution than ignorance ad violence.   COMFEST gives you an opportunity to interact with people from all walks of life with all kinds of differing views.

All that aside, you can just go there and ENJOY YOURSELF.  Take in some food, fellowship with others from Columbus.  Enjoy the music, the art from our fellow Ohioans, American and our brothers and sisters.

All Star Jammerz at Comfest

Written and Photography by
Andrew Livelsberger

Background:
The All Star Jammerz are a a Reggae/Soca group that got their start in 2011 in Columbus Ohio.  They have played at Comfest in downtown Columbus in the past and were back in 2017 to play again.

Impression:
While the mainstay of every Comfest is the music, it takes a special band to stand out.  The All Star Jammerz did that.  Playing a combination of original music and covers, they entertained the early crowds on Saturday.

Check out their site, linked above to find other places they may be playing near you!

Comfest Burlesque (Adult Content)

Background:
Per Wikipedia, Burlesque is a literary, dramatic or musical work intended to cause laughter by caricaturing the manner or spirit of serious works, or by ludicrous treatment of their subjects.[1] The word derives from the Italian burlesco, which, in turn, is derived from the Italian burla – a joke, ridicule or mockery.

There were several burlesque performances at the 2016 Community Festival this year, this being just one of them.

Impression:
All the performances were top notch.  This show's talent was brought by Crimson Lace Cabaret.

It's really hard for me to put into words the performances.   If you like live theater, or comedy like Shadowbox, then this is right up there - only a little racier!!  The time went by very fast.  In my opinion, it is worth a trip to see their performances!!

"Comfest" Community Festival at Goodale Park

Visual Ohio visited the annual "Comfest" or Community Festival.

The parks namesake statue - he got a cape for the festival
We had heard a lot about the festival, but this was our first year there.  Lots of great live music, community activist presence and people just generally having a good time and enjoying the day.

Goodale Park is a fun downtown destination when there is not an event...but add in the event and you have a recipe for a great day.

Free Hugs Line

Food is well represented as well, you can find just about any cuisine there your heart desires, drinks of all kinds.

An eclectic collection of vendors are also present, giving you budget conscious items all the way up to thousand dollar custom built, one of a kind art sculptures.
