Background:

The Clintonville Farmers Market features everything from composting, fresh dairy, meats, herbs and produce to live music.

Held Saturday's on High Street right by the Donatos Pizza and Karen Wickliff Books.

Impression:

When most people think farmer's market, they invision having booth after booth of farm fresh produce.  That is true of this market as well, but along with the farm fresh products there is also live entertainment.   It usually switches up every week and on May 11, the Piano Peddler and a Conga Drummer lent their talents for all at the market area.

"The only Punk rock camp out in the country" is coming to Ohio. Come camp, drink craft beer, and play games, all while listening to the punk bands that influenced the bands, that influenced the punk bands that you listen to now!

Goldfinger

This was a great weekend of meeting people from all around the country. I personally got to see two of my three favorite bands (the Descendents and Pennywise) from my younger punk rock, angry, no responsibility having youth. The third, and most influential band to me, is playing this year, NOFX.

There was some drama over an earlier show NOFX had played before the camp which made way for The Descendents to play. After talking to a bunch of folks who came for them specifically,  I know a lot of you are pumped to finally get to see them this year. I will say the most fun I had at last year's show was seeing Rancid play. You forget how good they are live and how good Tim Armstrong is with the crowd.

Strung Out

From the circle pits during Sick of it All, to the sing alongs with Rancid and Bad Religion, make the right decision and get your tickets for this one of a kind event.

Here are a few pics from last year and I will have a bunch more from this year's chaos!

Martinsville Lavender Festival

Written by Dani and Andrew Livelsberger

Background:

1 year after starting the Peaceful Acres Lavender Farm, the first Lavender Festival was help.  10 years strong and 2018 had another successful festival season.

Impression:

In our attempt to hit all of the Great 88 counties in Ohio, we have our first story from Clinton County.  Out amongst the country roads and farms in Martinsville, lies the Peaceful Acres Lavender Farm.  Annually, there is held a festival with music, activities and...lavender!!

Going into this festival, we had no expectations.   We had never been before and just happened to see it listed out on the internet somewhere.  Braving the hot, Ohio summer we drove from the comfort of our central Ohio home to the farm.

Within the grounds are several hiking paths.  From the parking area, it is a short walk to the main festival area.  Here you will see rows upon rows of different lavender plants.   Thankfully, the rows are marked and there is literature to explain the types, where they originate as well as how to harvest.

For a small fee, you can cut your own bunch of lavender, getting to take as much as you can fit within the confines of a wire pipe cleaner.

There is more too to do and see. Rescue birds shown below are there for you to interact with. There are also vendors, music, lavender themed food and drinks.   Education on the different kinds of lavender as well as workshops to craft items using lavender.

While not "large" by any means it is an interesting place to visit.     So, next June jump in the car and visit the lavender festival!!

All Star Jammerz at Comfest

Written and Photography by
Andrew Livelsberger

Background:
The All Star Jammerz are a a Reggae/Soca group that got their start in 2011 in Columbus Ohio.  They have played at Comfest in downtown Columbus in the past and were back in 2017 to play again.

Impression:
While the mainstay of every Comfest is the music, it takes a special band to stand out.  The All Star Jammerz did that.  Playing a combination of original music and covers, they entertained the early crowds on Saturday.

Check out their site, linked above to find other places they may be playing near you!

Hippiefest

Background:
An artistic gathering place located in Rockbridge, OH.  A place of art and ideas reminiscent of the 1960's.  Hippiefest!

Impression:
We got there later and missed a lot of the performances, but from what we did see, this is a great event. Musicians played in 2 areas, artists were creating original works and food and vendors were plentiful.

When coming into the entrance, make sure to go straight and not org to the right.  The right will take you to the antique mall area, the festival was up on the hill.

The atmosphere was fun and friendly.  The turnout was so great that a lot of the food trucks ran out of food!

Independents Day 2015

Written and Photography by
Andrew Livelsberger

Background:
Held in the Franklinton area in downtown Columbus, this festival has 7 stages for music performances, vendors tents and art exhibits and performance art.
The feature here is independent artist and performers having a showcase to show you what they have to offer.

Impression:
If you've not been to this festival before you are missing out.  At first look, I thought it might be the same as Urban Scrawl, which we had just recently featured here at Visual Ohio.  It is not the same however.

Dayton local band Good English.

There is a stronger emphasis on music and performing arts.  There are tents and stages in every nook and cranny of the Franklinton area.   Make sure to investigate them all.

A fun place for all ages of family members.  Definitely, this festival needs more exposure and participation by the community.
